Shark in the Park

Our latest story cafe - we call it Rainbow Cafe - was all about "Shark in the Park" by Nick Sharratt.

15 families with a total of 23 children came along to the free session, and as they arrived they were able to explore the Shark in the Park communication friendly space, a blue cloth for the pond, a copy of the book, some cardboard tube telescopes, and some sharks and other creatures.

Then we read the story with children joining in with "There's a shark in the park!"

Children and families then had the opportunity to make their own story props to take home to recreate the story again.  Children made shark lollystick puppets and cardboard tube telescopes.  Look at what we made:

Then we read the story again, the children joining in with their props.  Families were given a "family challenge" to take home - what can you spot through YOUR telescope - take a photo or draw a picture, and all the children got a certificate.

We love Shark in the Park - why not borrow it from your local library and try it at home.
