A Story Cafe | The Little Red Hen

Today's story - The Little Red Hen. It's a traditional tale which has been adapted many times. We read the ladybird board book version which is about a hen and her friends the cat, the rat and the pig.

I also found an old ladybird edition on my shelf

and this lovely book by Lucy Cousins with eight traditional tales including The Little Red Hen

Invitations to Play

I'll just put the pictures to show you this time as they sum it up nicely -

Story Props

The Little red hen puppet, a pig, a cat and a rat, some wheat, some grain and some flour.

We made some story props to take home and had a go at kneading some dough

Snack Time
We baked some loaves of bread to share for a snack

Carpet time at the end

We sang Old MacDonald had a farm, with the hen, the cat, the rat and the pig.  The children then chose which other animals might be on the farm.  This got a bit silly and we had "a carrot" among other things!
